Dr. Karen Tichenor

Dr. Karen Tichenor is an experienced, global executive in the transportation industry with expertise in quality, engineering, and program management. She is currently leading the Quality, RAMS and Field Service organizations at Kawasaki Rail Car in Yonkers, NY. Before joining Kawasaki in February of 2016, she served as Vice President of Quality and Program Management at New York Air Brake, Vice President of Quality and Business Performance at Ansaldo STS, Director of Quality, HSE, and Business Performance at Bombardier Transportation, and Director of Engineering at Fischione Instruments. She has a BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering and a PhD in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from North Carolina State University and is a Six Sigma Black Belt.

Dr. Tichenor has been active in STEM for three decades, serving as Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering at University of Rhode Island and as Adjunct Professor at University of Denver and University of Colorado. She has held a number of positions in SWE, including Section Representative, Vice President, and President of the Rocky Mountain Section, and was Program Chair of the 2001 National Conference. She has been recognized for her leadership as a Colorado Women Leader of Excellence by the Colorado Women’s Leadership Coalition.
